Crafted at the solar-powered De La Espada factory in Portugal. Designed by De La Espada Atelier and rigorously engineered with the support of our in-house product development team and expert craftspeople. Durability, comfort and aesthetics combine for a product that lasts a lifetime.

Timber is sustainable solid wood from North America or Europe, offering long-term repairability of the surface. Natural colour and grain variations in every plank make each piece an individual. Traditional wood joinery bonded with wood glue ensures structural integrity. All finishes are non-toxic and applied by hand, sprayed or rubbed.

Stone is from quarries in Spain, Portugal, or Italy. Natural colour and grain variations make each piece an individual.

De La Espada Atelier is the De La Espada in-house design team, led by Simon Kämpfer. The product range is influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and mid-century Scandinavian design combined with the rich craft heritage of Portugal. The expertise in design, craft and retail that De La Espada has gained over more than 25 years is revealed in furniture that is quiet and intricately detailed, functional and versatile, luxuriously tactile, and at once international and rooted in the home of our dedicated factory.

We have the first pieces designed by our own Atelier, which will be dedicated to exploring historical periods that interest the firm, to carry out research when it comes to both traditional craft techniques and new materials, and to explore new typologies,” Luis De Oliveira, co-founder of De La Espada.

Solid wood is an expression of the life of a tree, grown for at least 30 years, and the weather patterns it experienced, the absorption of sunshine and minerals. The tree is imbued with meaning, and this meaning is transferred to the piece of furniture it becomes.

Our planks are cut in a way that honours the growth rings and grain, making them clearly visible.

AMERICAN BLACK WALNUT

Our American black walnut is from the midwestern United States. This is a prized hardwood with luxuriously figurative grain patterns and great strength. The walnut tree is relatively small, and the dark heartwood is surrounded by sap wood that is blond in colour.

Our American black walnut timber is available in a choice of oil finishes.

AMERICAN WHITE OAK

Our American white oak is from the eastern coast of the United States. Oak has long been used in furniture due to its great density, outstanding durability and simple, understated beauty. Its durability is compounded by the fact that it contains tannin acid, which naturally prevents rotting.

Our American white oak timber is available in a choice of oil finishes, or an oxidised finish.

BLACK MARQUINA MARBLE

Black Marquina marble is from the Basque country in Northern Spain. This natural stone has a dense black colour with white veins and each cut features individual colour and pattern variations.

Our marble is honed to a beautiful matte finish then coated with a sealant for water-repellent protection.

ATAIJA CREME LIMESTONE

Our Ataija Creme limestone is from Portugal. This natural stone features a thin grain with a relatively uniform background, though each cut has individual colour and pattern variations.

Our limestone is honed to a beautiful matte finish then coated with a sealant for water-repellent protection.

NOTE: When used in large planar applications, such as the top of a dining table, our Ataija Creme limestone will display more prominently the natural grain variations and other small marks such as fissures that lend each piece individuality and character. Fissures are naturally occurring in our limestone and are filled in production with a clear epoxy resin to restore the stone's tensile strength while retaining the character of the mark.

ROSA NEGRAIS MARBLE

Our Rosa Negrais, from the Pero Pinheiro area of Portugal, has a beautiful reddish colour with intricate wine-coloured veins. This natural stone features individual colour and pattern variations in each cut.

Our marble is honed to a beautiful matte finish then coated with a sealant for water-repellent protection.

CARRARA MARBLE

Our white marble is Carrara, from Tuscany. This marble has been used since Roman times for fine sculpture and architecture. This natural stone has dark, expressive veins though each cut features individual colour and pattern variations.

Our marble is honed to a beautiful matte finish then coated with a sealant for water-repellent protection.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, with an attractive gold-like colour. It has been used for centuries for decorative items and musical instruments. We coat our brass with Renaissance Wax which provides a barrier to slow ageing and oxidisation, while maintaining a natural appearance.

Our brushed brass is brushed to create an appealing surface texture before the application of wax.
