DE LA ESPADA ATELIER

TWENTY-FIVE BED

Inspired by the work of Carlo Scarpa, Charlotte Perriand and Josef Frank, Twenty-Five Bed features a special edition woven headboard made from junco, a material commonly used in Portugal to make baskets and handbags. Rather than working with a pre-fabricated mat, De La Espada uses the timber frame of the headboard as a loom upon which the junco is woven, with Danish paper cord used for the warp.

As the junco is naturally relatively short in length, the back of the headboard features the cut ends of the grass, highlighting the material's nature and the laborious handwork that goes into creating each unique piece.

With its slender frame and relatively small footprint, this bed is suitable for compact spaces, while its headboard, beautiful from all sides, makes it ideal for use in the centre of a room.

TWENTY-FIVE BEDSIDES

Crafted from solid timber and junco, the Twenty-Five Bedside Chest and Twenty-Five Bedside Table are the perfect companions for the Twenty-Five Bed. The side panels are woven on a loom at the historic Portuguese basket-making workshop Toino Abel before being applied to the beautifully detailed solid timber frame.

Offering generous yet compact storage with cable management, the bedside chest has one shelf and one soft-close drawer with a recessed handle on top and bottom, hidden from view. The bedside table has two shelves.

Thoughtful detailing includes using magnets to hold the woven panels in place to allow easy access to the cable management compartment, the recess in the tabletop serving to prevent items from rolling off, and the understated yet complex joint where the leg meets the top.

TWENTY-FIVE SHELVING UNIT

Twenty-Five Shelving Unit emerged from diverse influences ranging from Chinese Ming dynasty shelving to timber sculpting details seen in Brancusi sculptures and Hans Wegner chairs. Designed for flexibility, the Twenty-Five Shelving Unit is available in a range of sizes, and each shelf is adjustable with a hidden mechanism.

TWENTY-FIVE DESK

Twenty-Five Desk is a reimagining of the typology, offering flexible seating with no front or back. Inspired by the work of Charlotte Perriand and the organic shape of gourds, the solid wood desk has been designed to take centre stage in a room with its welcoming shape and tactile detailing. Comfort and haptic qualities were deeply considered in its creation, from the thick desktop and inviting edge profile to the solid wood legs with the subtle scooped-out detail showcasing the beauty of the material. Twenty-Five Desk’s cable management system features a contrasting cover made in stone and brushed brass.

Twenty-Five Desk includes a single drawer with a soft-close mechanism and can seat up to 2 people. Twenty-Five is also available as a Work Table without a drawer which can seat up to 4 people.

TWENTY-FIVE COFFEE AND SIDE TABLES

Twenty-Five Coffee and Side Tables are versatile and sculptural tables inspired by the phases of the moon. They have a soft, organic pebble shape and a rounded tabletop edge possessing an inviting tactility. Beautiful joinery where the leg intersects the tabletop celebrates solid wood furniture craft.

TWENTY-FIVE CHAIR WITH MANTA GIL

This special edition Twenty-Five Armchair is upholstered in a Manta Alentejana, a traditional blanket from the Alentejo region of Portugal with a heritage reaching back over a century. The pattern and colours of the textile were custom-designed and traditionally woven by artisan blanket-weavers. The alignment of the pattern across the chair was selected to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing composition.

Twenty-Five Chair is a solid wood dining chair that nods to barrel making; its curved backrest is made from ten components carved and joined. Shortened armrests allow for relaxed comfort and more flexible sitting positions within the chair. The design reflects Scandinavian and Portuguese influences realised in premium solid wood and luxurious custom upholstery.
