The October collection consists of dining chairs and a dining table that designers Neri&Hu envision not merely as objects, but as the material embodiment of a threshold. The products capture the duality of autumn, its permanence and transience.

“October, with its crisp decay and golden transitions, serves as the perfect temporal metaphor: a month that cradles both the melancholy of endings and the promise of renewal. More than furniture, October is a provocation. A call to inhabit the discomfort of transformation, to wrestle — as all meaningful beginnings must — with the weight of what is and the lightness of what might be,” Neri&Hu.

Celebrating the dialectic between the enduring and the ephemeral, October Dining Table has a timber structure that communicates the steadfast presence of institutional wisdom, a foundation that holds and supports, while above it, the tabletop is conceived as a plane of possibility, its surface a stage for the transient rituals of gathering and exchange. It is here that the fleeting present, be it a book, a shared meal or a moment of collaboration, will be displayed and served.

“Together, the base and the top enact a tension: the permanent structure cradles the dynamic plane, just as tradition provides the platform for reinvention. To gather at this table is not merely to convene, but to participate in the very act of giving form to what is yet to be. A testament to the belief that every new idea requires a foundation from which to leap,” Neri&Hu.

October Dining Chair and Dining Armchair are crafted from solid, enduring timber speaking to permanence, and supple saddle leather signifying transience. Intricate detailing brings dimension and complexity to simple forms for an enduring sense of discovery.

“It’s a chair that if you look at orthogonal line drawings, it’s really very simple. We added simple details so from different angles you see different profiles. This cut here and this round edge here [on the chair arm], it immediately changes the way you see the form from an angle; the profile becomes much softer, and becomes a lot more articulated,” Rossana Hu of Neri&Hu.

The timber will carry the mark of times past, and the chairs’ saddle leather seat, malleable by nature, will be shaped by the imprint of countless moments of gathering.

“Maybe a family of 6, using the chair over a course of dinner in a span of 18 years might see 6 chairs being completely different. But with that comes a memory of a particular individual, a character; all of a sudden the chair has an identity in itself,” Lyndon Neri of Neri&Hu.
