Sosharu

View image for Sosharu

Located in London’s Clerkenwell district, Sosharu is an upscale Japanese izakaya restaurant by chef Jason Atherton. Inspired by traditional Japanese minka houses from the Edo era, Neri&Hu designed the restaurant with a timber structure in the centre. Sheltered within the domestic warmth of the timber ‘house’ is the main dining area, where guests can enjoy an intimate meal, while still participating in the social aspect of dining through the layering of lightweight kōshi timber screens and mirrored reflections along the outer walls.

Surrounding the ‘house’ are classic idealised Japanese landscape elements: the ‘earthen terrace’ corridor, the cold bar and dispense bar as feature ‘rocks’, the private dining tsubo-niwa ‘garden’ and the deep azure ‘sky’ above. The chef’s table, Kisetsu, meaning ‘seasons,’ occupies a discreet corner of the landscape, curtained off with Japanese indigo-dyed noren curtains printed with the Sosharu emblem. Guests are installed at a U-shaped counter reminiscent of those intimate neighbourhood izakaya where the chef greets you by name, prepares your food before your eyes and serves it to you directly.

Neri&Hu furniture made by De La Espada features in the main dining area including Shaker Chair, Shaker Bench, and Shaker Round Table. Capo Bar Stool is used at the bar.

Wyers at Kimpton de Witt

View image for Wyers at Kimpton de Witt

Wyers Bar & Restaurant is located within the Kimpton De Witt Hotel in central Amsterdam. Designed by Studio Modijefsky, the interior was inspired by the history of the location, where, prior to the erection of the hotel building in the 1980s, the Dutch fabric firm, Firma Wyers, had their headquarters.

Design details throughout reflect the history of the site from the banquettes that resemble fabric rolls in various colours and finishes, to the bar and show kitchen designed as volumes modelled after large weaving machines, to the dark wooden floor laid with a weaving pattern. Located on a busy intersection, the restaurant’s design filters the surroundings, a subtle transition in materials from hard to soft creating a calm atmosphere within. Steel and glass in the entrance lead to marble, wood, leather, and textile finishes. A rich colour palette complements the materials: olive green, elephant grey, clay brown and warm ochre.

Whether seated at the bar, or in front of the show kitchen, guests can enjoy the comfort of Solo Bar Stool designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by De La Espada in walnut and leather.

Flattered Apartments Algarve

Located just a few metres away from Tavira’s Old Town, Flattered Apartments Algarve consists of two holiday rental villas set in a Cistercian convent from 1509, converted and renovated by acclaimed Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. The former convent, now a multi-residential complex including two saltwater swimming pools and beautifully kept outdoor spaces, faces the centuries-old Tavira saltpans, part of the Ria Formosa marsh ecosystem. Nearby are secluded pristine beaches and delicious local gastronomy.

The interiors of the two Flattered villas continue the understated contemporary luxury of the architecture. Natural materials including stone, linen and solid wood are used throughout, with many De La Espada products in oak and walnut timber including Solo Oblong Table, Duet Chair, Capo Dining Chair, Capo Lounge Chair, Commune Bench, Commune Stool and Trio Tables by Neri&Hu; Welles Table by Matthew Hilton; Ladder Bookcase by Autoban; Kim Side Table by Luca Nichetto; and Companions Bed, Two-Seater Bench with Back, Bench and Stool by Studioilse.

Flattered Apartments Porto - Sea-facing

View image for Flattered Apartments Porto - Sea-facing

In partnership with Flattered Apartments, De La Espada created a rentable holiday home in Porto’s Foz do Douro neighbourhood with panoramic views of the sea. The Flattered founders, Miguel Mateus, Catarina Silva, and Catarina Alves, worked with architect José Carlos Cruz to design the interior architecture, reflecting an empathy for locale and the building’s past: local materials and original features serve as the framework for a space that is contemporary yet rooted in history. Flooring is made from wide boards of local pine heated from below, windows are framed by original granite, and the washroom is clad in Carrara marble with beautiful sky views through the large window.

The split-level apartment includes a dining room on a raised platform, a living room with a hidden pullout bed, and on a mezzanine level, a private bedroom with a pitched roof and skylight. Furniture made just an hour’s drive away at the De La Espada factory in Mira features throughout: Duet Chair, Shaker Round Table, Trio Console Table, Trio Round Coffee Table, Trio Side Table, Frame Sofa, Solo Bench, Extend Mirror, Capo Lounge Armchair, Capo Bed, Commune Stool, and Lianou Stool all designed by Neri&Hu; and Ladder Bookcase designed by Autoban. The home harnesses the thoughtful hospitality of Flattered and combines it with exclusively De La Espada furniture and styling.

Apartment AMC

Apartment AMC is located in a block that forms part of Terraços de Bragança, the set of buildings in Lisbon’s Chiado district designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira. rar.studio designed the apartment interior with sensitivity for the existing design while focussing on the needs and desires of the client. Their interventions maximised the size of the interior, increased the flow between the spaces, and brought about a more luminous apartment while taking full advantage of the westward view. Pale wooden flooring is met by pure white walls that reflect the natural light, while furniture in blonde wood and soft colours maintains the open feeling of the spaces. De La Espada furniture features throughout, including Duet Chair, Frame Sofa, Frame Bed, Solo Bench, Extend Mirror, Trio Side Table, and Trunk Low Cabinet designed by Neri&Hu; and Laurel Side Table and Laurel Coffee Table designed by Luca Nichetto.

Comme Moi Flagship Store

View image for Comme Moi Flagship Store

The Comme Moi flagship store is located within the Art Deco Donghu Hotel in Shanghai, China. Built in 1925, the building underwent multiple renovations and changes in use over many decades. When designing the interior, Neri&Hu deliberately chose to keep these remnants of the past intact, while introducing new design elements to embody the Comme Moi brand: young, sophisticated, and exquisite.

Four sequential chambers are united by a continuous rail that threads through them, also serving as the armature for custom-designed hanging cabinets. Sheathed in an elegant metal mesh, these showcase cabinets stand out within the historic architectural surroundings to present the fashion pieces in a striking new light. A new terrazzo floor also unifies the space and occasionally extrudes up to form functional areas including the reception counter and seating with wooden inserts as an accent.

Guided by the metal rails and continuous flooring, shoppers can meander freely through the various rooms and end their journey in the lounge space. White linen changing rooms give way to a runway catwalk experience set against a scalloped glass feature wall.

Neri&Hu was awarded The American Architecture Prize (AAP) in 2017 for their design of Comme Moi Flagship Store.

The project includes Solo Bench designed by Neri&Hu and manufactured by De La Espada craftspeople.

Güterhof

View image for Güterhof

The Güterhof restaurant is located on the ground floor of a former salt storage in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The building, dating from 1787, originally served as a stock turnover point for salt that arrived on ships on the river Rhine and awaited transport on land to the final destination.

The interior design team at Nader Interior focussed on bringing this impressive room back to life, maintaining historical elements while introducing modern interventions. The river Rhine, central to the building’s history, was incorporated into the design of the restaurant as a focal point for guests seated at the bar, itself a dominant feature of the space. The spaciousness of the site was embraced with an open layout that maintains an intimate feeling due to the various zones within: restaurant, lounge, cocktail bar and sushi bar.

Natural materials and an understated colour palette feature throughout the space. This is beautifully contrasted by the vibrant colours of the sushi bar and its integrated open kitchen, built as a cubical in the room.

Solo Dining Chair and Solo Bar Stool designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by De La Espada feature in the bar and lounge areas.

Scandic Continental

View image for Scandic Continental

Scandic Continental is a 392-room hotel located in the heart of Stockholm. Designed by Koncept Stockholm, the hotel interior has a calm, subdued and warm feeling, harmonizing with and standing in contrast to the linear, solid form of the building. Guests can enjoy a sundeck on the 11th floor for outdoor workouts and events, a lobby bar and coffee shop, the Market flagship restaurant, and a stunning rooftop bar and terrace.

Capital, the rooftop bar, has a relaxed and personal atmosphere with spectacular views over the city and Riddarfjarden. A curved wooden ceiling frames the bar which combines copper, tinted mirrors, a dark green palette, and modern furniture for an international feeling with a Scandinavian touch. Cocktails can be enjoyed from the comfort of Solo Bar Stool designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by De La Espada.

Four Seasons Houston

View image for Four Seasons Houston

The ground floor of Four Seasons Hotel Houston was designed by New York-based firm, Meyer Davis to enhance the arrival experience for guests. Arabescato marble, smoky onyx and warm saddle leathers are used throughout the lobby, creating a comfortable gathering spot punctuated by a dramatic floating staircase. Fourth floor skylight windows flood the space with natural light. Located in the heart of the city, the space has been named “Houston’s Living Room.”

Bayou & Bottle, which spills out into the lobby, is the first Texas venture for Richard Sandoval Restaurants. This lively bar destination is a chic bourbon concept, serving over 125 varieties of bourbons and whiskeys. Guests can enjoy a drink, or a meal inspired by Houston's melting pot of cultures, from the comfort of Solo Bar Stool designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by De La Espada.

Amastan Paris

View image for Amastan Paris

Amastan Paris, which opened in the summer of 2016 in the heart of the 8th arrondissement, is the first flagship of the urban hotel brand, Amastan. Inspired by the classic codes of Parisian apartment architecture, design studio NOCC carefully considered each aspect of the hotel’s interiors and atmosphere in a way that is at once quietly eclectic, comfortable and gently understated.

A striking petrol-blue herringbone parquet is a signature throughout the hotel, playfully applied to the walls on the ground floor, and to the walls and flooring in the 24 guest rooms. This bold design feature provides a subtle contrast to the otherwise restrained and pared down aesthetic.

The rooms, spread over six floors, include bespoke furniture in juxtaposing textures and materials including ash, lacquered oak, copper and brass, which play against the airy white accents seen in the bathrooms’ marble tiling. Guest rooms facing the back of the hotel benefit from beautiful garden views.

The bar Anouk welcomes an international and local clientele through its own separate entrance. Expertly crafted cocktails and rare spirits are served alongside a healthy menu of light snacks. In the timeless style of a classic Parisian home, Anouk opens out through a set of large bay windows onto a lush internal garden. Solo Bar Stool, designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by De La Espada, provides comfortable seating at the unique ombré marble high table overlooking the garden.

Chi-Q

View image for Chi-Q

Situated within the prestigious Three on the Bund in Shanghai, Chi-Q is an upscale Korean restaurant by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Neri&Hu’s interior design creates an abstracted landscape. Cladded in charcoal wood slats and concrete floors, the entrance of the restaurant is reminiscent of the discrete and private entrances found in traditional Korean houses. Upon crossing the threshold of a wooden gate, guests are led into the long bar along the window, where they may relax with a drink and enjoy an open view onto the raised garden with its massive stone block backdrop.

Diners experience their meal in half-sunken seating banquettes leading up to the communal table situated under the large void of the atrium. With its unique composition of light, shadows and reflective patterns that evoke the canopy of a forest, the warm-toned metal ceiling is the defining feature that runs throughout the entire dining space. With a deep understanding of materiality, the striking atmosphere inside the main dining space recalls the richness of Korean cuisine—both space and food representing a balance between the delicate, the raw, and the vibrant.

Solo Bar Stool designed by Neri&Hu and made by De La Espada is included in the bar area.

Vince Showroom

The Vince showroom in New York City reflects the pared down, modern luxury of the brand’s garments. Thoughtfully designed by A+I, the store features a palette of white, grey and black combined with natural wood accents. The open plan space is divided by clothing rails, accessory shelving, and screens, maintaining a sense of spaciousness, while simultaneously providing the comfort of individual “rooms”. Several tables of various heights are used throughout the showroom accompanied by the iconic Solo Series by Neri&Hu: Solo Lounge Chair, Solo Bar Stool, and Solo Dining Chair provide comfortable seating at meeting points for shoppers.

Mercato

View image for Mercato

Situated within the prestigious Three on the Bund, Mercato is the first of renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Shanghai restaurants to serve an upscale yet rustic Italian fare. Neri&Hu’s design for the 1,000 square meter restaurant draws not only from the chef’s culinary vision but also from the rich historical context of its locale, harkening to early 1900s Shanghai, when the Bund was a bustling industrial hub.

Stripping back the strata of finishes that have built up after years of renovations, the design concept celebrates the beauty of the bare structural elements. Three on the Bund was the first building in Shanghai to be built out of steel, and the architects’ decision to reveal the original steel columns pays homage to this extraordinary feat. Against the textured backdrop of the existing brickwork, concrete, plaster and mouldings, new insertions are clearly demarcated. Constantly playing the new against the old, Neri&Hu’s design is a reflection of the complex identity of not only the historical Bund, but of Shanghai at large. Duet Chair and Solo Bar Stool by Neri&Hu are used throughout.

Flattered Apartments Porto - City-facing

View image for Flattered Apartments Porto - City-facing

In partnership with Flattered Apartments, De La Espada created a rentable holiday home in Porto’s Foz do Douro neighbourhood right next to the sea. Flooring is made from wide boards of local pine heated from below, windows overlooking the city are framed by original granite, and the washroom is clad in Carrara marble with beautiful sky views through the large window.

The split-level apartment includes a dining room on a raised platform, a living room with a hidden pullout bed, and on a mezzanine level, a private bedroom with a pitched roof and skylight. Furniture made just an hour’s drive away at the De La Espada factory in Mira features throughout: Capo Dining Chair, Shaker Round Table, and Lianou Stool by Neri&Hu; Stool, Bench, Companions Writing Desk, and Companions Bed by Studioilse; Mira Lounge Chair, I-Beam Side Table, and Coniston Rectangular Mirror by Matthew Hilton; Ladder Bookcase by Autoban; and Stanley 3-Seater Sofa, Kim Bench, and Kim Side Table by Luca Nichetto. Tres Encinas is a well-known seafood and fish restaurant serving since 1967. In 2010, Autoban redesigned the interior with a focus on being true to local materials- the essential base of the Arts and Crafts movement- concentrating on tiles, furniture, glass and metalwork. The ceiling recalls Art Nouveau with an ornamental metal lattice, a feature continued to the design of the doors separating the main dining rooms. The walls are embellished with custom made tiles with pictorial stories about fishermen and sea life. The floor has a classical style parquetry which is repeated in the ceiling of the bar area, the wood bringing a sociable warmth to the restaurant. Deer chair and Deer Bar Stool manufactured by De La Espada for Autoban, feature throughout.

Rich, dark wood pharmaceutical drawers line the walls of the bar area, punctuated by beautiful leaded glass cabinets housing greenery. A seasonal menu by some of Sweden's top chefs is spiced up with medicinal herbs and accompanied by unique cocktails tailored to each dish. Contemporary Arts Center

View image for Contemporary Arts Center

The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio, designed by famed architect, Zaha Hadid in 2003, has been called “… the most important American building to be completed since the end of the cold war,” by The New York Times. It was envisioned as an "urban carpet" that connects the exterior and interior worlds.

In 2015, Paul Lechleiter and Jim Stapleton from leading global architecture and design firm, FRCH Design Worldwide, redesigned the lobby of the CAC adding a café, lounge and seating area for an active, friendly, and welcoming space. Fulfilling Hadid’s vision for an ‘urban carpet’, a series of illuminated columns allow artists to change the mood of the lobby and the surrounding streetscape and tell a story of what is happening in the galleries.  A neutral palette of soft stones and warm woods allows the building’s iconic architecture and contemporary artwork to remain the focus.  Butterfly Bar Stool and Deer Armchair, designed by Autoban and manufactured by De La Espada craftspeople, feature at the bar and communal tables respectively.

The Molitor

View image for The Molitor

The Molitor is a private sports club in Paris with a luxury hotel, spa, restaurant, and rooftop bar. The interior design by Jean-Philippe Nuel has been conceived as a journey through time, charting the building's history. From post-war pool for fashionable society, to 20 years of closure when it became an internationally famous site for 'street art', the Piscine Molitor has been an emblematic part of Parisian life for a large part of the 20th century. The conversion charts this journey by preserving historic features including the mosaic floors, the ceiling in the restaurant, and the colours of the exterior, and thoughtfully complementing them with modern elements. The restaurant, characterised by the 1930's ceiling, includes large scale photographs by Thomas Jorion showing the graffiti-covered walls before demolition, which become like abstract paintings. Diners enjoy the comfort of Butterfly Bar Stool designed by Autoban and manufactured by De La Espada craftspeople.

Lakeside Cottage

View image for Lakeside Cottage

The lakeside cottage of Mjölk owners, John and Juli Baker is located in Ontario overlooking Lake Huron. Having carried out most of the renovation and interior design work themselves, the Bakers’ holiday home reflects the aesthetic found throughout their shop, gallery, and publishing projects: pared down, functional, timeless design — primarily Scandinavian and Japanese — which embraces nature. The couple stripped back the home and removed the drop ceiling before painting the walls and floor white, for a fresh, open feeling. They kept the original stone fireplace as the centrepiece of the living room, and surrounded it with a combination of flea market finds and design classics including black AJ Wall Sconces by Arne Jacobsen for Louis Poulsen; birch shelves by Alvar Aalto for Artek; and a vintage Pernilla lounge chair by Bruno Mathsson.

The kitchen, designed by John Baker and built by Studio Junction, includes custom-built cabinetry and shelving in Carolina pine; a soapstone sink with a double drying rack; and brass details throughout including hanging rods, taps, and accessories. White PH pendant lamps hang in the dining area above vintage blue Danish chairs by Jorgen Baekmark; and by Studioilse for De La Espada, Together Extending Table, Bench and Settle. The high back of the latter acts as an elegant room divider between the kitchen and living room.

The master bedroom features Companions Bed by Studioilse, above which Shaker peg rails circle the walls to provide hanging storage for key items.

Thousand Oaks Residence

Thousand Oaks Residence is a 12,000 square foot, five-bedroom family home in California designed by architects Rios Clementi Hale with interiors by NICOLEHOLLIS. With the heart of a modern farmhouse, the home embraces the outdoors with floor-to-ceiling windows and an interconnected series of patios and entertaining areas including a pool and fire pit. The property also includes a separate guest cottage and a pool house with a gym. Interiors were designed around the family’s lifestyle, from supporting their interest in entertaining to highlighting their art collection that includes work by Richard Serra, Damien Hirst and Ed Ruscha as well as up-and-coming and West Coast artists. Even the material palette was personalised, its muted colours inspired by a dusty pale jade egg from one of the family’s Araucana chickens. The colour was used for custom cabinetry throughout the home, met by natural materials including stone, wood and linen.

De La Espada furniture is used throughout the home: Bench with Back by Studioilse in the entryway; Hepburn Sofa by Matthew Hilton in the master bedroom; Manta Dining Chair, also by Hilton, in one of the offices and the stairwell; and Elysia Lounge Chair by Luca Nichetto in the living room.

Chilmark House

Located on five acres of land in the heart of the farming and artistic community in Chilmark, Massachusetts known as “Up-Island” Martha’s Vineyard, Chilmark House comprises a house and studio with views over vast fields, stone fences, Chilmark pond, and the Atlantic ocean. The architecture was a collaboration between Gray Organschi and Aaron Schiller, with interiors by Schiller Projects.

Chilmark House was designed to both respect and make the most of the stunning surroundings. The house and studio were conceived as a pair of simple, dark barns with low pitched roofs to sit quietly with the vernacular architecture. The two buildings form a series of courtyards and outdoor spaces with varying degrees of privacy and views. Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows flood the three-storey house with natural light, setting the bleached ash interior aglow in contrast to the solid-black charred wood exterior. Light wells adorned with local rocks and moss illuminate the lower level.

In the upper level living room, one can enjoy views of the ocean through the expansive windows while relaxing on Elysia Lounge Chair and Nino Ottoman designed by Luca Nichetto and crafted by De La Espada.
