The second of Swire's Chapter Hotels, The Magdalen Chapter, is set in one of the most iconic buildings in Exeter, The Edwardian West of England Eye Hospital. In keeping with the vision of Chapter Hotels, the hotel is locally inspired with its own unmistakeable personality. The historic building has been sensitively restored and offers a stunning mix of old and new. Almost every one of the 59 rooms is different, with many overlooking the walled garden and over to the Haldon Hills. The bar with curated library connects to the glass fronted lounge overlooking the contemporary gardens and terrace. Within the lounge, guests find comfort on furniture including Hepburn Sofa by Matthew Hilton, with accessories including Charlene Mullen cushions, Dove and Needlepoint.

Dove is hand embroidered using red tapestry yarn on natural linen. The simple iconic shape is enhanced by the embroidery technique of couching down the wool, giving the surface a rich and varied surface. The cushion is feather-filled and has the surprise detail of a red zip.

Needlepoint Left is hand-embroidered using thick tapestry wool which is braided and couched down onto white linen. Inspired by a detail of a German sampler from the early 19th century, the design is reappropriated for a modern interior through the play of scale and texture.

Needlepoint Right is hand-embroidered using thick tapestry wool which is braided and couched down onto white linen. Inspired by a detail of a German sampler from the early 19th century, the design is reappropriated for a modern interior through the play of scale and texture.

Hepburn is glamorous and light, lifted from the floor on elegant solid wood legs, with an optional cross detail on the cushions. Designed by Matthew Hilton for his eponymous brand, and manufactured by De La Espada craftsmen.
