Nordico

Tucked away on a quiet street in the centre of Leon, Spain, is Nordico, a bakery and cafe designed by Rosa Maria Yaguez and Juan Manuel Villanueva of Bahu Estudio. A small plantation of birch trees along the facade welcomes visitors, while playfully altering the levels of natural light that stream through the cafe in varying seasons. The interior utilises natural, austere materials with a focus on quality without pretension. Materials include white compact laminate, stainless steel, glass and white lacquered metal. The predominantly white space is punctuated by an accent wall which simulates the different layers of a cake through narrow strips of chipboard, wood, acrylic, and felt. Tone Chair by Leif.designpark provides seating at the stark white tables, the parquetry of varying timbers in this context also alluding to the rich layers of a confection.

Tone Chair uses a selection of timbers, flaunting the natural colour and grain differences. The leg frame in solid American black walnut or American white oak supports a plywood seat and backrest with a choice of veneer combinations. The design recalls traditional Japanese parquetry, interpreted in a modern form. Designed by Leif.designpark and manufactured by De La Espada for the Leif.designpark brand.
