For our Winter 2017 photoshoot we journeyed to Lisbon, to the intimate house hotel, Santa Clara 1728. Designed by architect Manuel Aires Mateus for hoteliers João and Andreia Rodrigues, the 6-suite hotel is located in the historical centre of the city, overlooking the Tagus river and the Pantheon. The building, dating back to the 18th century, was respectfully restored in the manner characteristic of Mateus: original features including stone columns, archways and stairs are preserved and framed by quiet, modern interventions that play with volume and light, with a focus on the way the space is inhabited.

The luminous space, rooted in history yet emanating a tranquil modernity, feels like a natural home for De La Espada furniture. Focusing on Matthew Hilton designs, both classic and new, and our black oiled ash finish, the images portray a shared affinity for natural materials, and a modernity that doesn’t forget the past.
