At Maison et Objet, Paris from 23-27 January, Autoban launched a sofa and a bed as part of a new collection titled, Union. While Autoban’s previous furniture collections have been inspired by the studio’s commercial projects, including restaurant and hotel interiors, Union is firmly rooted in the domestic environment with an emphasis on form and creating the utmost comfort.

The Union collection was showcased alongside Autoban’s new Maze table, which has a bold, graphic aesthetic that is a contemporary take on Kündekari, a traditional woodworking technique dating back to Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Created using the intersection of two patterns, Maze looks deceptively simple, yet plays on a series of optical illusions. The table’s design also embodies Autoban’s architectural approach to design and their favoured themes of layering of materials and textures.

Exclusively for Maison & Objet, Autoban designed a 40 sq metre installation that captured the ethos of the collection in an immersive domestic setting. Striking tropical wallpaper was used to create a joyful and surprising backdrop, which also provided a playful contrast to the more subdued tones and rounded silhouettes of the new Union furniture pieces.
